Ask your administrator if you think this is wrong. =====Passwords===== ===Default Passwords=== ----------------- Default passwords are unique passwords automatically generated by VMIS when a user account is created or when a user's password is reset. When logging in with a default password, users will be required to set a new password and will be unable to access VMIS if the default password is not changed. If the default password is not changed within 30 days of account creation or password reset, the user account will be automatically disabled. ===Password Requirements and Password Expiration=== --------------------------------------------- VMIS passwords are required to be a minimum of 8 characters in length and must have at least three of the following: 1) an upper case letter, 2) a lower case letter, 3) a number, or 4) a special character. If a password is at least 16 characters in length, it is considered to be "complex." A password history is retained for each user in VMIS so that the previous three (3) passwords cannot be reused. Standard passwords are valid for 180 days, at the end of which they will expire and no longer be valid. Complex passwords are valid for 3 years, at the end of which they will expire. VMIS sends an expiration warning email 2 weeks before expiration, 1 week before expiration, and the day before expiration unless the password is changed. An expiration warning message is also displayed after logging in starting 5 days before expiration and will continue to be displayed until the password is changed. ===Changing and Resetting Passwords=== -------------------------------- Users can change their password at any time within VMIS. This feature is available by selecting "Change Password" under the File menu. When a password is changed, the time remaining before password expiration is reset. {{ userdocs:how-to:ch1:change_password_drop_down.png?direct |Change Password Menu Item}} If a password is forgotten or past its expiration date, users can contact the VMTH Human Resources staff to request that their password be reset.
